Kingmaker is by Last Tycoon, Top of The 1986 European 3YO Classification (1000m -1300m). 8 wins-3 at 2-from 1000m to 1600m, Breeders' Cup Mile S., Gr.1, Royal Ascot King's Stand S., Gr.1. Last Tycoon has left a sensational legacy as a sire and broodmare sire, both here in New Zealand and internationally.  Last Tycoon was the sire of 81 stakes winners, and his truly spectacular line up of progeny including the likes of Tycoon Lil, Mahogany, O'Reilly, Bigstone ... the list goes on and on. O'Reilly and Marju have been dominating the Hong Kong sires' table of late.

His most famous son in this part of the world is of course is Kingmaker's full brother, O'Reilly. He was leading NZ sire in the 2007-08 season, and is the sire of 40 stakes winners, including The Jewel, Alamosa, Mac O'Reilly, Master O'Reilly, Guyno, and a host of other great horses. O'Reilly was Champion NZ Three-year-old in 1996-97 & Champion NZ sprinter-miler in 1997.

Kingmaker's dam is the Golden Slipper winner Courtza (by Pompeii Court),who was head of the 1988-89 Australasian 2YO Classification. She was the winner of $A1.8m and five races including the Gr 1 Golden Slipper and the Gr 1 Blue Diamond. Courtza is the only mare to have achieved this double. She also won the VRC Ascot Vale Stakes (Gr 2), and the Gr 2 MVRC Veuve Clicquot Stakes. She in turn is out of the super mare Hunza, joint top Australian filly of her year and dam of multiple Group 1 Our Pompeii. Hunza was the dam of seven stakes winners from eight to race.
