| Painted Black - Information |
![]() Painted Black (Jpn) Chestnut 1996 16.2hh Painted Black won four races from 1800m to 3600m in Japan as a three-year-old. He won the Nakayama Sports Nippon Sho Stayers Stakes over 3600m, beating T.M. Opera O and Going Suzuka, and in the 2400m Tokyo TV Tokyo Hai Aoba Stakes he beat Meiner Theater and Tai Crusher. He commenced stud duties in New Zealand in 2002. From his first crop of 13, he had nine starters for nine winners, who between them won 16 races. These included Bianca, who has won five races to date, including the Gr 3 Newcastle Gold Cup and the ARC Great Northern Foal Stakes, the Ipswich Cup, and the Wyong Gold Cup, all listed races. Bianca was second in the Gr 1 AJC Metropolitan Handicap, and second on the Cambridge JC 2YO Fillies Stakes and the City Tatt's RC Brian Crowley Stakes, both Listed race Gr 3 Qldes. She was fourth in th Tatt's RC Tattersall's Cup.
Painted Black has also proven himself in Singapore with 3 runners for 3 winners including the now 3 win horse Bay of Island. Painted Black was a classic racehorse. From just nine starts as a three-year-old, he proved he had versatility, winning from 1800m through to 3600m including a Group3 2400m and a Group 2 3600m beating the next year's Japan Cup winner, T M Opera O, who went on to amass earnings of US$16m. Painted Black bowed his tendon short of the post in that race, his last run for that season, and it was an injury that plagued his career potential thereafter. In Japan they tend to favour the ability for a horse to stay, not sprint, and Painted Black was trained to stay. Therefore it is impressive to see his progeny have shown plenty of ability over shorter distances and considering that a fair percentage of his mares have come from stout bloodlines that favour wetter tracks it comes as no surprise that they can handle all types of going. Painted Black had shown that he leaves progeny that are confirmationly correct, with good bone and size. Painted Black was bought from Shadai Stallion Operation in 2007 by Greenacres Stud and in the past 2 seasons has covered some lovely mares including multiple stakes performed mares, and multiple winning mares. Breeders are thrilled with the progeny, and we look forward to seeing them hit the track. In the meantime we are getting great pleasure from seeing those earlier crops performing well. His stud fee this season is $2,500 + GST (transport subsidies apply).
